Here, surrounded by nature, you’ll marvel at ancient forests and a predominantly flat landscape. This site is a true bio-geographical gem, with extensive forests representing the last remnants of plain forests of Central Europe here in Umbria, offering unique views throughout the journey. A must-stop is a panoramic viewpoint overlooking Lake Trasimeno before returning along the Bonifica cycle path that follows the Chiana canal. Continue toward Montefalco along the valley on secondary paved roads, with a second stop to taste Sagrantino and Montefalco Rosso wines at the Caprai winery. Return to Assisi to complete the loop. THE TEVERE BIKE ROUTE – The Tevere Cycling Route, stretching from San Giustino to the Alviano Oasis, is one of the region’s main excursion paths. It is structured as a traffic-free bike path with some very short stretches on secondary roads, perfect for enjoying the beautiful natural landscapes along the Tevere River. The route is not technically challenging and is suitable for MTB or trekking bikes, both muscle-powered and electric. The trail features minimal elevation gain on gravel roads. It’s not uncommon to spot characteristic birdlife such as herons, egrets, and night herons, within a natural setting of riparian flora under the shade of poplars, willows, alders, and locust trees. Cyclists can ride from Città di Castello to San Giustino, with a beer tasting stop at a craft brewery, and return via secondary paved roads. A visit to Città di Castello is recommended. Alternative routes can be organized with the option of arranging bike transfers for rentals.
