Arrival: It is recommended to visit the historical/artistic attractions of the valley.
MUSHROOM WALK AND TRUFFLE HUNTING: We are in the woods of Pietralunga, an excellent area for mushrooms and truffles this time of year. Guided by a mycological expert, we will search for local mushrooms to learn to identify them and understand their ecological balance… even poisonous mushrooms have their purpose! At the end of the excursion, we will meet a truffle dog and its handler, who will assist us in the challenging hunt, a search made up of scents and a great bond between man and animal. We will conclude with a lunch featuring mushrooms and truffles at a local farmhouse.
MARRONI E CASTAGNE. Passeggiata nelle castagnere dei boschi di Morra, vicino a Città di Castello, un piccolo paese che nasconde un
CHESTNUTS AND MARRONS: A walk through the chestnut groves in the Morra woods, near Città di Castello, a small town that hides a treasure in its church adorned with a cycle of frescoes attributed to Signorelli. We delve into the woods surrounded by impressive chestnut trees, some centuries old. Walking through a chestnut grove in autumn is special; it’s like crossing a vast, colorful garden. We stop in a clearing to gather chestnuts, which we will roast on-site.
OLIVE OIL, GREEN GOLD – Archaeotrekking on Mount Acuto: A ring hike in the Monte Acuto Park. We start from Vocabolo Morlupo, taking the road that leads up the mountain, passing through olive groves and a medieval tower. The path steadily climbs under the shade of an oak forest that gives way to summit meadows. From here, we will ascend the “hump” of this giant that dominates the Alto Tevere, reaching the summit cross. We will enjoy breathtaking views from Gubbio and its Palazzo dei Consoli to Lake Trasimeno and Mount Subasio. At the summit, we will pass by the archaeological site excavated since the ’80s, revealing a sanctuary from the 6th to 4th century BCE. Bronze statuettes, small votive statues in anthropomorphic and animal forms, were also found. Finally, we will descend the southern slope of the mountain, passing through the ancient settlement of Galera before returning to the starting point. Here, we will visit an olive mill and taste the old oil, still fragrant but less pungent, and the precious new oil from the start of the season.
