It’s a special place, perched atop a hill overlooking a landscape of rare beauty. What was once a farmhouse now houses four apartments that enjoy the silence and breathtaking views of the Carpina Valley, surrounded by nature. You’ll alternate between relaxation and half-day trips to discover the region’s natural and cultural highlights.
THE FOREST OF PIETRALUNGA: First encounter with the area: Pietralunga. A walk through the beautiful woods surrounding the town, from where we’ll set off on one of the so-called “wolf rings” trails, leading us deep into one of Umbria’s largest forests. The summit area, with its steep, eroded slopes and exposed rock formations (in places creating striking badlands), provides a balcony overlooking nearby mountain ranges: Serra di Burano, Monte Nerone, Monte Catria, and Monte Cucco. A lovely immersion in nature to inspire us. Lunch is available at a local organic farm for a tasting of km0 and typical regional products. Arrival and check-in at the agriturismo.
Distance: approximately 8 km
Elevation gain: +250 m
Difficulty: medium/easy
LAKE TRASIMENO: Nicola will introduce you to Lake Trasimeno and offer a day of fishing on the lake. An “unlikely” service, coming from the Pietralunga mountains, yet Nicola offers it with great enthusiasm. Lake Trasimeno is the largest freshwater body of the Italian peninsula, a true “treasure chest” of biodiversity.
The residual riparian woods, meadows, bordering ponds, thick reeds, and open, deeper waters provide ideal habitats for a multitude of animal species typical of wetland areas. After fishing with Nicola, we suggest visiting the Fishing Museum in San Feliciano, which illustrates the history and life of Lake Trasimeno, exploring its geological and environmental aspects and recounting the history of the people living along its shores through fishing tools and techniques.
GUBBIO AND MONTE CUCCO PARK: A wonderful exploration hike through the ancient forests of Monte Cucco Park. Departing from the fields of Pian delle Macinare, we’ll follow a scenic loop that first borders the Rio Freddo, reaching Val di Ranco, and then continues along a beautiful trail among centuries-old beech trees. Walking through these woods feels like stepping into a magical world, with light and shadow playing through the dense foliage. After the hike, we recommend visiting Gubbio, a beautiful Umbrian town famous for its “Madmen’s License” and the local crescia on the panaro with friccò!
Final half-day of relaxation at the facility, with time by the pool and the chance to try archery under expert guidance. You won’t forget this feeling of peace when you return home!
