CASTEL RIGONE LOOP: Trekking and Villages!
Starting from the central square of Castel Rigone, this trek leads through the charming medieval village, along its scenic overlook, and descends towards Rigonella. You’ll pass through pastures and woodlands, mostly consisting of Turkey oak, downy oak, juniper, strawberry tree, and broom, reaching the small village of Poggio. The route continues through hilly terrain, eventually ascending to the ancient Torre di Fiume, a medieval tower that overlooks the entire valley. From here, the trail climbs to a summit, offering stunning panoramic views of Lake Trasimeno, a perfect spot for a break or picnic. The trek then follows a comfortable cart track that returns to the center of Castel Rigone.

ARCHEO-TREKKING AT MONTE ACUTO: A Circular Route in the Monte Acuto Park
The journey begins with a climb towards the mountain, through olive groves and past a medieval tower. The trail steadily ascends under the shade of oak woods, leading to the upper meadows where we’ll hike along the “hump” of this giant overlooking the Upper Tiber Valley, reaching the cross at the summit. Here, we’ll enjoy views extending from Gubbio and its Consoli Palace to Lake Trasimeno and Monte Subasio. At the top, we’ll pass an archaeological site excavated in the 1980s, revealing a sanctuary from the 6th-4th centuries BCE. Bronze statuettes—small votive statues in anthropomorphic and animal forms—were also found here. We’ll then descend the southern slope of the mountain, passing the ancient settlement of Galera before returning to our starting point.

YCLING ALONG THE TIBER: Starting from the Agriturismo
We’ll ride north along the Tiber bike path toward Città di Castello on a relaxed, traffic-free gravel road shaded by poplars, willows, alders, and locust trees. It’s common to spot local birdlife like herons, egrets, and night herons in this natural environment with riparian vegetation. Along the route, we recommend visiting the Spada Lakes Natural Park, a protected area dedicated to environmental conservation and education. The park, a restored former quarry along the Tiber, is now equipped with birdwatching stations and educational signs for identifying various species. Are you a birdwatching enthusiast? This is the place for you! We’ll continue cycling to Città di Castello for a lunch break in one of the Upper Tiber Valley’s most important cultural centers. We’ll return to the agriturismo by bike, now slightly downhill for a relaxed ride.

ART & GARDEN at Castello Bufalini
A visit to San Giustino and the historic Castello Bufalini, a monument of rare beauty with intact rooms, furnishings, and a stunning Italian-style garden. The tour will focus on plants depicted in the frescoes of the castle’s rooms, followed by a visit to the garden to observe these plants in real life. This is a fascinating cultural and botanical tour that explores the art and history of the region. We recommend a lunch afterward at a nearby restaurant to savor the cuisine, a blend of Umbrian and Tuscan flavors. A visit to nearby Sansepolcro and the Civic Museum, which houses works by Piero della Francesca, is also recommended.
