ARCHEOTREKKING ON MONTE ACUTO
A circular hike through the Monte Acuto Park begins with a climb to the summit via a trail through olive groves and past a medieval tower. The path steadily ascends under the shade of oak trees before opening to grassy uplands. From here, hikers tackle the “hump” of this towering giant of the Upper Tiber Valley to reach the summit cross, where views stretch from Gubbio and its Palazzo dei Consoli to Lake Trasimeno and Monte Subasio. The summit area features an archaeological site discovered in the 1980s, revealing a sanctuary dating back to the 6th–4th centuries BCE. Bronze figurines, including anthropomorphic and animal-shaped votive statues, were unearthed here. The descent follows the mountain’s southern side, passing through the ancient settlement of Galera before returning to the starting point.
