Fonte del Giglio is a beautiful medieval structure that forms a courtyard overlooking a beautiful, extremely private and intimate garden. It is located in a strategic position for visiting the surrounding areas and the most important centers of Umbria.
CASTEL RIGONE LOOP: Trek and Villages!
The trek begins at the central square of Castel Rigone. Passing through the charming streets of this 13th-century village, the route continues along the panoramic promenade and descends toward Rigonella. The trail crosses pastures and a thicket featuring Turkey oak, downy oak, juniper, strawberry trees, and broom, leading to the small hamlet of Poggio. The hike continues along the hills, climbing to the ancient Torre di Fiume, a medieval tower overlooking the valley. From here, the path ascends to a stunning panoramic viewpoint of Lake Trasimeno, an ideal spot for a break or a picnic. The loop concludes with an easy dirt road that brings you back to the center of Castel Rigone.

ARCHEOTREKKING ON MONTE ACUTO
A circular hike through the Monte Acuto Park begins with a climb to the summit via a trail through olive groves and past a medieval tower. The path steadily ascends under the shade of oak trees before opening to grassy uplands. From here, hikers tackle the “hump” of this towering giant of the Upper Tiber Valley to reach the summit cross, where views stretch from Gubbio and its Palazzo dei Consoli to Lake Trasimeno and Monte Subasio. The summit area features an archaeological site discovered in the 1980s, revealing a sanctuary dating back to the 6th–4th centuries BCE. Bronze figurines, including anthropomorphic and animal-shaped votive statues, were unearthed here. The descent follows the mountain’s southern side, passing through the ancient settlement of Galera before returning to the starting point.

BIKING ALONG THE TIBER RIVER
Starting from the accommodation, follow the Tiber River bike path northward toward Città di Castello. This peaceful route on a white gravel road, closed to traffic, runs alongside the natural Tiber, shaded by poplars, willows, alders, and black locust trees. Birdwatchers may spot herons, egrets, and night herons. A visit to the Spada Lakes Natural Park is a must. This protected reserve, a reclaimed former extraction site, features birdwatching stations and an educational trail with panels identifying various species. Cyclists continue to Città di Castello, one of the Upper Tiber Valley’s cultural hubs, for a lunch break before returning to the accommodation via transfer.

ARTEORTO at Bufalini Castle
Travel to San Giustino for a visit to Bufalini Castle, a rare gem with its preserved spaces, furnishings, and exquisite Italian-style garden. The tour focuses on the plants depicted in the castle’s frescoes, followed by an exploration of the garden to observe these species in real life. This cultural and botanical experience blends art with the history of the region. Afterward, enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant to savor the fusion of Umbrian and Tuscan cuisine. A visit to the nearby Sansepolcro and its Civic Museum, home to works by Piero della Francesca, is highly recommended.
