THE FANTASTIC TRAIL OF MONTE MALBE
Difficulty: Easy; Distance: 3 km
This circular trail is perfect for children, their families, and anyone who wants to rediscover the joy of exploration and dreaming through an easy walk!

The path starts from Podere Campore di Sopra, initially and finally overlapping with part of Route 4, “Campore,” one of the trails within Monte Malbe. The journey includes several stops: the Elf’s Pit, the Witches’ Clearing, the Orcs’ Territory, the Gnomes’ Village, and the Fairies’ Castle, and it can be followed either independently or with a guide.

  • THE ELF’S PIT: At the center of a small clearing on ancient tree trunks, tiny houses are scattered.
  • THE WITCHES’ CLEARING: A small meadow at the forest edge with a “magic circle” made of 12 large stones and 4 thrones crafted from large tree trunks.
  • THE ORCS’ TERRITORY: The Great Oak, majestically standing to the left of the path, marks the beginning of the Orcs’ Territory. You’ll first encounter the “Orcs’ Warehouse,” a small wooden house where, visible through glass slits, various forest-related items are stored: animal tracks, nests, tree sections, bark, leaves, and fruits. Continuing onward, you’ll reach the “Orcs’ Village,” a wooden structure set against rocks that serves as the Orcs’ gathering spot. The exit from their territory is marked by the old Forked Trunk Tree.
  • THE GNOMES’ VILLAGE: The village consists of around 10 small wooden houses, a shared storage space, a mine, and a wood shed. Each structure is gnome-sized and visible to visitors. The village is accessible by a small path along the “Apple Tree Clearing.”
  • THE FAIRIES’ CASTLE: Located atop a small promontory, the Castle or Fairies’ Dwelling is set against the trunk of an old tree, with several small rooms visible through tiny windows (bedrooms, music room, dining room, and bathrooms).

CYCLING ALONG THE TIBER – ANSA DEGLI ORNARI
A fun bike ride suitable for everyone along the cycling path that follows the Tiber River within a designated community-interest site, with a visit to the Eco-Museum. We’ll travel by car to Ponte San Giovanni to begin the bike tour.

The Tiber River was crucial for the development of the peoples of central Italy in ancient times. Along this waterway, for centuries, people and goods exchanged hands, and different cultures and civilizations met and clashed. After a dedicated journey, in March 2004, the Tiber River Eco-Museum was established. It now serves as a socio-cultural, economic, and tourist development project focused on preserving traditional crafts, historic resources, neglected or abandoned sites, historical, artistic, and monumental heritage, old industrial sites (industrial archaeology), the intangible heritage of “living treasures,” and the scenic landscape that forms the backdrop to the Tiber River.
